We have just received this exquisite honey-scented black tea, hand-picked from the Phoenix(Feng huang) Dan Chong tea fields in Pinglin, Taiwan.
The spring of 2025 saw sunny days every day, starting with the Baozhong tea-making season in April, making it the perfect season for tea-making. The good weather continued, leading to mass outbreaks of planthoppers (small green-leaf cicadas) in various areas in May. Thanks to the power of nature and the blessings of weather, this year has seen the production of high-quality tea in various regions, making it a good year for both spring oolong tea and early summer honey-scented black tea.
Among them, the Honey Black Tea we are introducing today is special. Unlike regular Honey Black Tea, this one uses only tea leaves carefully hand-picked from the Phoenix(Feng huang) Dan Chong tea fields, which are extremely rare in Taiwan. Only a very small amount is produced, making it truly a rare gem.
The lingering aroma and flavor of Phoenix(Feng huang) Dan Chong tea is called "mountain rhyme," and is characterized by a noble fragrance that is comparable to the "rock rhyme" of Wuyi Rock Tea and the "tone rhyme" of Anxi Tieguanyin Tea. This unique flavor, combined with the honey aroma unique to Taiwan, makes this a one-of-a-kind black tea.
I was lucky enough to be able to sample it on the day it was completed. The moment I took a sip, I was struck by an overwhelming presence unlike anything I had experienced before. The rich flavor was layered with floral, fruity, and honey aromas, and the aftertaste lingered in my mouth forever, making it an impressive cup.
