Blessed Temple Congee(Ping-an Chou)in Yilan｜宜蘭のお寺平安粥

Taiwanese people often go to temples during lunar new year. In Yilan where we came from there is a special blessed congee cooked by the volunteers and prepared with offerings of rice, vegetables and other ingredients. This temple congee culture only exist in Yilan and some people from other areas even come to Yilan for the blessed congee. It is said that 1200kilogram of the rice is consumed and 2000kilograms of the congee is eaten per day from the 1st day of the lunar new year until the 9th. It is believed that whoever has eaten the blessed congee in the beginning of the year will be blessed and live a peaceful year.

台湾人は旧正月によくお寺に参拝に行きます。故郷の宜蘭県のほとんどのお寺においては、特別な行事食を提供していて、「平安粥」という無料な具沢山お粥です。食材はキャベツ、キクラゲ、にんじん、ネギ、生姜、豚肉などの素朴な物なのですが全て信者さんからの寄付品で作っています。県内のおばさん達もみんなボランティアで作りに来て、愛情たっぷり込めたお母さんの味がします。県内で最も有名なのは玉尊宮というお寺で旧正月の1日から9日(天公生/玉皇大帝神様の誕生日)まで平安粥が提供され、この期間でも1日あたり1200キロのお米が使われ2000キロのお粥が食べられていると言われます。ここのお粥を食べると、神様から守られて平安な一年になると多くの人々に信じられています。
